Unnatural Forests

2001 November 7
by Peter Sheerin

MSNBC.com has posted a surprisingly balanced article on the health of “Unnatural Forests”. It admits—quite bluntly—some of the things Dr. Wattenburg has been saying for years.

Since that article is no longer available, a 2005 paper on Decline of eucalypt forests as a consequence of unnatural fire regimes will provide some insight, along with A Professional Forester’s Point of View, Freakish bug outbreak exploits weaknesses of unnatural forests, and a 2001 report, Emerging Hardwood Pest Problems and Implications for the Central Hardwood Region, that may have prompted the MSNBC article.
