Simple Experiments for Kids and Curious Adults
- Cornstarch Packing Peanuts
- If you’ve received packages in the mail larger than books, you have probably
seen these, but you may not know they have at least one interesting property.
- Raisins in 7-Up
- This is a classic experiment that Bill Wattenburg often suggests to young kids and parents on the air. All you need is
a small box of raisins and a glass of 7-Up or any other similar clear, carbonated (sparkling) beverage with large bubbles.
- Self-propelled bathtub boat
- This is a very simple toy that does a great job of demonstrating the principle of thrust. Just fill
the boat with water, put it in the tub or pool, and watch it go.
- The Coriolus force
- The force created by the Earth’s rotation, acting upon anything moving above the Earth’s
surface by causing it to curve to the right (clockwise) in the Northern Hemisphere and to
the left (counter-clockwise) in the Southern Hemisphere.
