I supported our bombing of the Serbs to stop their attacks on the civilians of Kosovo. I believe that the civilized world must stop ethnic violence, no matter who were the aggressors and victims fifty or a hundred years ago. But two countries that have been receiving the greatest amount of help and compassion from the U.S. are now stabbing us in the back for trying to stop the Kosovo killing. The leaders of Russia and China, wallowing in our dollars, are giving the Serbs the support to step up their brutality. Well, they have now changed my mind. There is a better way to punish, really punish the Serbs for their bloodthirsty behavior without endless bombing—and dispense some fairness to the U.S. taxpayers for a change. Our Congress does not have to declare war. All they have to do is pass a new Declaration of Independence. Declare our total freedom from giving any more U.S. money and favors to our backstabbing, so-called friends, Russia and China. The beauty of this solution is that we probably only have to threaten to do it, or only do it for a little while.
Congress must immediately consider and debate two things:
Surely, they will understand that we must use all our national resources to pay for the defense and support of the Kosovo civilians. Certainly, we can no longer give handouts to countries that actually make the Kosovo job vastly more expensive and dangerous for us. Both Russia and China have now forfeited their rights to the compassion that they would deny other less fortunate human beings.
Stop giving the Russians more money every time they are in trouble and they will be too busy paying their own debts instead of sympathizing with their bloodthirsty cousins. China has been allowed to sell a hundred billion dollars of its goods in the U.S. each year while prohibiting the sale of most U.S. products in China. This is a direct giveaway of at least fifty billion dollars a year because our working people have to pay for this trade imbalance in the future. Stop this unfair trading that is no more than a massive handout. The Chinese economic bubble will burst. The million Chinese leaders who are becoming paper millionaires know this all too well.
Finally, we tell these strange friends that it is their turn to be the protectors of the downtrodden in the world. The U.S. is tired. We have tried as hard as we can for fifty years, but it seems that no good deed goes unpunished. Surely, we have been wrong in our ways. So, Russia and China, you take over the job. The U.S. must now save the hundreds of billions that we have been giving to you. It is time for us to pay for the proper support and defense of U.S. citizens.
Russia and China will tell the Serbs to shape up in damn short order. And, the Serbs just might finally realize that they have nowhere to go but to rejoin the civilized world. Call or write your congresspersons and Senators. Tell them to try this. You’ll like it.
