Sea warmth linked to solar cycles

So says a report from Columbia University. The study shows that small changes in the amount of solar radiation have a large effect on our climate. Democrats want more illegal immigrants

Senators Daschle and Gephardt, and Support Open Borders think that Legalizing Illegal Immigrants is a good idea. When will this nonsense stop? We must protect our borders, and we must not make it OK for those who broke through our borders to stay here. We need to find them, then ship them back to their homelands so that we have the resources to properly integrate legal immigrants into our country, by providing them the freedom that citizens enjoy.

L.A. Mayor wants to reckognize illegal immigrants

Wednesday’s SF Chronicle reports (page A16, 5 star edition) that L.A. Mayor James Hahn believes Mexicans who had established themselves in California should get some sort of legal recognition. Hey, I’d like to be able to break a serious law and have the government forgive me too. So can I stop paying my anual car registration and ignore the smog checks, and then expect not to be pulled over by a cop or have my car confiscated? Cool.

Not so many Earth-crossing asteroids?

CNN.com: Study lowers likelihood of asteroid hit. Sounds like good news, until you find out that the odds are still 1 in 5,000—very high as compared to winning the lotto, for instance.

Quincy Library Group forrestry plan

I found this environmentalist Op-Ed about the Qunicy Library Plan while doing some research. It offers an interesting take on why the plan was so derided by the eco-freaks.

Unnatural Forests

MSNBC.com has posted a surprisingly balanced article on the health of “Unnatural Forests”. It admits—quite bluntly—some of the things Dr. Wattenburg has been saying for years.

Logging voters with a pencil

I voted today, and was bothered by something—I had to sign the voter roll with a pencil. Isn’t this insecure? Doesn’t this make it ripe for fraud? Can someone please explain this to me?

Partial victory in slaughter of salmon

Partial victory in WA state salmon killings! A bill authored by Rep. Barb Lisk (R-Zillah) has been signed by Gov. Gary Locke—although he vetoed part of the billthus delaying its implementation. Locke’s veto message indicates that he believes that wild salmon and hatchery salmon are distinct and genetically different, so how this bill actually gets implemented will be telling. Rep. Lisk’s press release on the signing.

why the World Trade Center collapsed

Scientific American has a very good article describing why the World Trade Center towers collapsed. As you might expect, it has far more details than any of the mass-media press reports you’s seen.
