Disaster Relief
MREs From Heaven
MREs From Heaven is the description given to Bill Wattenburg’s method of feeding refugees by dropping granola bars, MREs, and other light foil- or plastic-wrapped packets of food loose; directly over starving refugees. First used during 1993 to feed starving Bosnians, and again in 2001 to feed Afghanistan refugees (all mostly Muslim), this method is an official part of the U.S. military’s humanitarian feeding procedure, but the upper military management in the Obama administration refused to use it to feed starving Hatians (mostly Catholic) after the 2010 earthquake.
