Save Money in How you Heat Your Home
Heating the home is the biggest use of gas in the most homes. This can be reduced substantially by turning down the thermostat at the right times—good advice that everyone has heard, but few have followed because gas prices were so low. Well, take a look. Your gas bill has tripled since last year. And it could double again. It’s a tremendous waste to heat your home to 70°F at all times. And, that could cost you another thousand dollars this year. Constantly warm homes are not necessarily the healthiest homes. Active kids thrive on lower temperatures. Folks who come to visit me in the mountains are always surprised at how much better they sleep. That’s because it’s about sixty degrees at night—and they get real cozy under the blankets.
Turn down the thermostat when you go to work or bed. Those who tell you that it costs more energy to heat up the house again are blabbering fools. Ask them if they leave their car running while they are at work. Most homes heat up again in fifteen minutes. Do this simple experiment just once. Turn down the heat in the afternoon and put on a warm sweater. You may discover that you have a lot more energy yourself. For sure, you’ll have a lot more money to spend on your family.
