| DA Riebe, Hall served Womack civil suit papersThis article was originally published in the the Amador Ledger Dispatch on March 24, 2000, and is reproduced here with its permission. By Joanna Baker JACKSON—Amador County District Attorney Todd Riebe and Ron Hall, investigator in the District Attorney's Office, were served papers last Saturday in at least one of the civil suits brought by Rick Paul and by KRL Partnership members Roland Womack, Nadine Womack, Larry Womack and Renee Womack. Also served was David Irey, special investigator for the San Joaquin District Attorney and One-time prosecutor in the criminal case brought against Womack by Riebe. An attempt was made to serve Russell Moore of the California Highway Patrol, but the server could not locate Moore on Saturday. The civil suit stems from the investigation of the alleged illegal removal of an underground gas tank in 1998. The investigation, which resulted in a grand jury indictment, involved a search of Robert Womack's home where a large number of documents were seized. An additional search was made of the Bosse Ranch in February of 1999 during which large holes were dug in an attempt to find evidence of environmental contamination. Water and electrical lines were damaged and the property was not returned to normal, according to Luke Womack, owner of the property. Marilyn Lewis, a member of the Jackson City Council and the wife of one of the defense attorneys in the "gastankgate" case, served the papers to Riebe and Hall. "I'd just got back into town after a nice three days on the coast and was greeted by this," said Hall. KRL is seeking compensation for "abuse of prosecution" through a jury trial, attorney fees for this and past litigation, and for general, special, exemplary and punitive damages, as well as other relief. No dollar amount has been specified. Amador County Counsel John Hahn, is responsible for supervising the defense of Riebe and Hall, since the actions cited in the suit were performed in their capacities as employees of the county. The Board of Supervisors has contracted with Larry Angelo of Sacramento, to act as defense attorney. Hahn said, "The county will vigorously defend itself." Copyright © 2000 Amador Ledger Dispatch |
