D.A. Riebe responds to recall move

Jackson—Amador County District Attorney Todd Riebe, in response to a recall petition currently being circulated throughout the county, has issued this statement:

"I am not surprised that someone who is being prosecuted for allegedly violating the law would be unhappy with the District Attorney. Prior to taking office, my predecessor initiated prosecution against the man behind this recall campaign and a Grand Jury composed of 19 Amador County Citizens indicted him. Prosecution has continued with the assistance of the California Attorney General's Office and the California District Attorney's Association."

The statement went on to say: "Now this defendant is seeking to remove me by making false accusations. It is an act of desperation designed to paralyze  and intimidate this office and generate public sentiment.

"While this charade unfolds, my dedication to my job will not waiver. Since my election, I have created prosecution units specializing in elder abuse, welfare fraud, and child abduction with domestic violence and prison crimes units set to begin soon.

"I am too busy administering the office and personally prosecuting murder and child molestation cases to allow myself to become distracted by those who seek to occupy my time with this mean-spirited campaign.

"Before you choose, ask yourself this questions: who do you want dictating the course of cases in Amador County—defendants or the District Attorney?"
