Prosecutors and their associates

Deputy District Attorney David J. Irey
Mr. Irey is a special environmental prosecutor who filed the charges against Mr. Womack and brought the case before the grand jury. Some of his past cases have included prosecutions against a 70-year-old retired woman who received a parcel of land and building in her divorce settlement that had previously been used as a gasoline station, and had two underground fuel tanks still on the property. There is no evidence that these tanks are leaking, pose any danger to the environment, or even contain any fuel at all. You can read about his other prosecutions of dairy farmers and a 70-year-old retired woman. You should also read about the San Joaquin County board of supervisors wanting to freeze funding for his activities, and likening his tactics to those of Germany's W.W.II "Gestapo", as well as the efforts of federal law enforcement to prosecute farmers with tactics modeled after Mr. Irey's efforts. All of these articles are from the Modesto Bee.
